HI‘IKUA - In a culture that honors the legacies of the past, this Hawaiian trio of talented musicians pays homage to their roots while creating a unique and progressive sound that leaves their mark in contemporary Hawaiian music. The group’s name derives from the Hawaiian word that means literally “to carry on one’s back.” Hi‘ikua accepts this responsibility and intends with each song to achieve that goal: to speak of their history in words and music; to enjoy each moment of that expression, and in sharing this with you, to hope that their message will find its way into the future. This is why Hi’ikua came to be and how they have chosen to honor those who have come before us. KEALE - Keale’s music brings forward the cultural legacy of the Keale family. His first solo work, “Kahikina,” released in 2007, welcomes the Rising Sun (Maka-o-Kane) as it begins its journey toward the Westside (Kane-huna-moku). Keale is also a member of the 2007 Na Hoku Hanohano Award winning group “Kaukahi.” Musical influences include Uncle Moe, early-Makaha Sons, and Carlos Santana. Keale is nephew to Uncle Moe Keale and cousin to Braddas Skippy & Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. Born in the islands but raised in the San Joaquin Valley, California, Keale came home seven years ago to give back to the ‘aina and the People. He shares the mountains and family tradition with elementary students and kumu statewide through the DOE in the Kupuna/Makua program and through the Pacific American Foundation. Following the Keale tradition he works as a Kahu of theGATHERING, a small fellowship that meets on the beach in Kailua. Keale’s second solo project, entitled "Kawelona," completes the Sun’s journey with songs composed for West O’ahu. To download Keale's bio, click here.

BROTHER NOLAND - Brother Noland is a true chameleon. His talent crosses many boundaries. While he is credited with the birth of “Jawaiian” music, which has a very contemporary island music sound, he is equally accomplished in contemporary Hawaiian music. His love of the diverse music of Hawai‘i allows him to present an exciting stage performance. His appreciation for the music of his ancestors weaves its way into his modern sound that continues to touch young people today. His newest release, “Mystical Fish,” won the coveted Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Reggae Album of the Year in 2007 and is his 10th solo recording project. THE KAIMANA BAND - The Kaimana Band is a musical partnership formed by three veteran Hawai’i musicians: Rodney Bejer (Bass and vocals), Eric Folk (Drums and percussion) and Kawika Regidor (Guitar and vocals). These versatile and dynamic musicians have performed or recorded with an A-list of Hawai’i entertainers including Ho’onua, BET, Amy Hanaialii Gilliom, Island Rhythms, Kapena, Eight O Eight, Henry Kapono and even Don Ho, as well as many, many others. The Kaimana Band capably handles a diverse song catalog ranging from traditional Hawaiian standards to the latest island music, classic R&B and popular top-40 songs. DOUG FITCH - A performing musician since age 8, Doug was raised in a rural mountain area in a family of accomplished professional and amateur folk musicians. "Hawaiian music speaks to me because it's an accoustic tradition that reflects its people and their natural surroundings."
Fitch was a nominee for the 2009 Na Hokuhanohano Awards (slack key guitar category) and 2009 Hawaii Music Awards (Folk Music category). Doug has studied Hawaiian slack-key guitar intensively with several masters and is also a recipient of a grant from the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts in support of his ongoing study of the genre, also known as "kiho’alu". Whether playing traditional, popular, or original compositions, Fitch’s performances reflect enthusiasm and creativity as well his respect for his teachers and the traditions of the music. He has been a featured songwriter, singer, and musician on several albums and has been a featured artist at the Na Mele Nei Concert Series. TONY C. - Tony C. (Conjugacion) has been at the top of the traditional Hawaiian music scene for decades. He is a consummate professional whose award winning recordings have set the standard for traditional Hawaiian music. He is a recording artist, composer, television personality, stage actor, producer, director, and kumu hula (hula teacher), and has performed on Broadway and in venues around the world. He has just released a brand new CD “Na Hula Punahele” (The Favorite Hulas), his 12th solo release in a long line of successful and award-winning projects. He is an active member of the Hawaiian music community, volunteering his time with numerous organizations to perpetuate Hawaiian music, including the Aloha Festivals Falsetto Contest, Hawai‘i Stars, King Kamehameha Hula & Chant Competition, E Hula Mau, World Hula Competition, and others. |

KOHALA - KOHALA's music, an acoustic blend of island, folk, and jazz, reflects the environment, landscape and culture of the Kohala region on the Big Island where the acoustic guitar trio lives. Lead guitarist, GRAMMY® Award winning Charles Michael Brotman, is a classical guitarist who began playing contemporary jazz after completing graduate studies in music. Rupert Tripp Jr. and Charlie Recaido grew up in Hawaii playing island music on steel-string guitars, using an acoustic finger picking style. The trio's diverse musical influences combine to create their own distinct sound. The band has released 7 CDs since 1998, and has toured extensively throughout Japan, Hawaii, and on the mainland. U.S. performance venues have included Wolftrap (VA), Somerville Theater (Boston), Kumbwa Jazz Center (Santa Cruz), Throckmorton Theater (Mill Valley); Japan venues include Sweet Basil, Blue Note Osaka, Blue Note Fukuoka, and concert halls throughout the Kansai area, Nagoya, and Tokyo.
